Hartwell Man Arrested After Highspeed Chase
A Hartwell man is behind bars after a highspeed chase late Wednesday night. According to Hart County Sheriff Chris Carroll, deputies with his office were conducting a safety checkpoint on the Highway 77 connector at Ridgeview Road. As offers were checking vehicles, a 2020 Ford Fusion approached and then fled. Officers pursued the vehicle as it traveled towards Lavonia before turning onto Shoal Creek Road. The driver then turned onto Bessie Road before running out of roadway, stopping the vehicle, and fleeing on foot. After a short chase and Taser deployment, deputies were able to safely take him into custody. The driver is identified as 33-year-old Kelsey Octavious Rucker of Hartwell
Rucker was transported to the Hart County Detention and faces the following charges:
- Felony Fleeing
- Speeding
- Reckless Driving
- Failure to Maintain Lane
- Too Fast for Conditions
- Obstruction of Officers
- Criminal Attempt to Possess Marijuana
- Possession of Drug-Related Objects
- Possession of Ecstasy
- Driving While License Suspended
- No Insurance
- Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
