Hartwell American Legion Awards Three Scholarships

Three Hart County High graduates are each receiving a $1,000 scholarship from Hartwell’s American Legion Post 109.

On Friday, the Post announced the winners include Samantha Farley, Selina Farley and Jessica Renee Ramsey – all members of the 2014 Graduation Class at Hart County High School.

Competition for these scholarships was very keen among the seven applicants from graduating Seniors throughout Hart County, according to Post commander Bill Blazek.

Blazek said each individual’s record was thoroughly reviewed by five independent judges who scored their application on the student’s history in the areas of extra-curricular, academics, and work activities as well as letters of recommendation from adults who know them well.

Applicants also had to write an essay based on an historic quote by Samuel Adams.

Samantha and Selina, who are the daughters of Greg and Tracey Farley of Hartwell, will attend Piedmont College in Demorest.

Jessica – who will attend Valdosta State University in Valdosta – is the daughter of Tanya Gail Ramsey of Hartwell.
