Hart Co Extension Office to Hold Seminar for Backyard Poultry Growers

It won’t be long before you will start seeing those cute little baby chicks for sale at local Tractor Supply stores and you might be one of those thinking about raising your own chickens given the high cost of eggs.

That’s one reason the Hart County Extension Service is planning a seminar for backyard poultry growers and those interested in finding out how to go about it.

Sierra Cannon is the new agriculture and natural resources agent in Hart County.

Cannon said an educational program Entitled Backyard Flock 101 is coming up Saturday, February 11 at the AgriScience Center in Hart County.

UGA Professor and expert on raising and caring for poultry, Dr. Casey Ritz will be the guest speaker.

Cannon said this is a great opportunity to learn more about raising chickens on your property.

Additionally, Cannon said during the seminar a number of important areas will be covered on how to successfully raise and care for your backyard flock.

If you are interested in attending the Backyard Flock 101 seminar on February 11, you can call Cannon at 706-376-3134 to register by phone.

There is a $5 registration fee payable when you arrive for the seminar to help cover the cost of the refreshments.
