Hart BOC Sets Fees for Paynes Creek Campground

Hart County has set the fees for camping at Paynes Creek Campground.

Hart County agreed to lease the park and take over the running of it from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

At a recent meeting, the Hart County Board of Commissioners heard from County Administrator Terrell Partain who suggested the fees be kept similar to other State campgrounds and parks.

“The fees we recommend are two sets, one for during the week and one for the weekends,” he said.

Fees for camping during the week, which is from Sunday – Wednesday, Partain recommended: RV camping, $30/night; Tent camping, $20/night. Double RV parking $60/night.

Fees for camping on the weekend, which is from Thursday – Saturday, he recommended: RV camping, $35/night; Tent camping, $32/night.

Partain said there is a one-time $3 reservation fee.

“We also have a senior citizen discount of 10% and a military discount of 10%. And those can be combined if they are retired military and over 65 they get a 20% discount,” Partain said.

Commissioners also suggested adding a discount for public safety personnel.

Commissioner Ricky Carter said he was concerned about those who wanted to stay one or more weeks and how that fee would be structured.

However, after more discussion Commission Chair Marshal Sayer advised not adding anything more to the fee structure at this time, noting adjustments could be made later.

After hearing from Sayer, Commissioner Joey Dorsey motioned to pass the recommended fee structure to include the discounts for senior citizens and safety personnel.

That motion passed unanimously.
