Governor Kemp Welcomes Applications for U.S. Senate Seat

Governor Brian Kemp is encouraging qualified Georgians who want to serve in the U.S. Senate to submit their applications online.

Kemp issued the open call for candidates to fill the unexpired term of U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson.

Last month, Isakson announced his retirement from office at the end of the year due to health issues.

Governor Kemp’s appointment will serve in the U.S. Senate until a special election is held on November 3, 2020.

“To ensure an open and transparent appointment process, I am encouraging all Georgians who want to serve in the U.S. Senate to submit their name and qualifications,” said Governor Kemp. “We will carefully vet the applicants and choose a person who best reflects our values, our state, and our vision for the future.”

Under Georgia law, in order to serve in the U.S. Senate, a candidate must be at least 30 years old and a citizen of the U.S. for a minimum of nine years.

In a press release issued Tuesday, Kemp said his office will carefully vet the applicants and choose a person who best reflects our values, our state, and our vision for the future.

To submit your application and the reasons you believe you are qualified to serve, you can go online to: https://gov.georgia.gov/executive-action/appointments.
