GDOT Seeks Public Comment On Proposed Bridge Replacement Project

The Georgia Department of Transportation is seeking public comment about a proposed bridge replacement project in the Gumlog Community.  The new bridge would replace the old bridge on State Route Highway 328 crossing Gumlog Creek/Lake Hartwell, about 3.8 miles north of Lavonia.  According to GDOT, the current bridge was built in 1962 and has been deteriorating over the years.  It also does not meet modern day load capacity standards.  As the new bridge is being constructed, motorists would continue to use the old bridge, which would run parallel to the new bridge.  The bridge replacement project on Gumlog Road would cost approximately $7.5 million.  If you like to comment on the proposed Gumlog Creek bridge replacement project, you can submit your comments online at a special GDOT webpage.   The comment period ends February 28, 2023.  No specific start date has been given at this time.
