GBI Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Toccoa

The officer-involved shooting that took place Tuesday is under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize requested the GBI look into the officer-involved shooting after the capture of 48-year old Kenton Deshaun Hall of Toccoa.

Hall had warrants for his arrest for the crimes of murder, kidnapping, and aggravated assault.

The night before, Hall had allegedly stabbed and killed his wife, and stabbed two of her friends.

Two Toccoa Police officers responded to a 911 call near an abandoned factory on West Spring Street in Toccoa.

A civilian had called 911 to say he recognized Hall as the suspect authorities were searching for in connection with the crimes.

Hall was armed with a knife when the officers arrived on the scene and Hall did not comply with their orders.

During the encounter, one of the officers fired his weapon twice at Hall, striking him once.

Hall was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he remains in serious condition. The officers and civilian were not injured during the encounter.

GBI Agent in Charge Jesse Maddox said the GBI will continue its independent investigation.

He said when the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
