Franklin County Partnering with TruVista to Expand Broadband Service

Franklin County is partnering with TruVista to provide broadband to more areas in the county that are considered underserved for Internet service.

At their work session Tuesday evening, County Commissioners heard from Andrew Seaver with TruVista who outlined the project.

He said, this past year, Franklin County was awarded a total of $15 million in American Rescue Plan monies – $8 million came from the State and $6.5 million matched by TruVista.

Seaver said the 2,812 addresses in need of broadband internet service were determined with a study done by UGA’s Carl Vinson Institute and provided to the State.

Seaver added that there are about another 5,000 other potential customers in Franklin County who live in the areas funded and who will benefit from the expanded broadband service but don’t fall under the underserved category. They will have the option to subscibe to TruVista broadband service.

He said TruVista has been awarded other grant opportunities that will allow them to continue making broadband improvements in Franklin, Banks and Stephens Counties.

Franklin County was among 70 Georgia counties to receive millions in grant money for broadband expansion.

Seaver said TruVista plans to begin work on Franklin County’s broadband expansion project in the second quarter of 2024.
