Franklin BOC to Hold Budget Public Hearing and Called Meeting Tonight

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners will hold their second public hearing tonight on the proposed FY2022 budget.

That will be followed by a called Board of Commissioners meeting at which time they are expected to adopt it.

The total FY22 Budget is expected to have revenues and expenses of $22.9 million.

The bulk of the revenue is coming from property taxes, but other sources of revenue include $1.5 million from the Local Option Sales Tax, just over a million from the Insurance premium tax, $3-million from SPLOST, and just over $2-million from the County’s water utility service.

After the public hearing at 6p, the Board will convene for a short called meeting where they will vote to pass the FY22 budget and discuss extending the moratorium on commercial and industrial applications.

Earlier this month, Commission Chair Jason Macomson said the Board would consider extending the moratorium after Pilgrim’s announced they had abandoned their efforts to build a plant in Franklin County.

“What we’re doing is revising our commercial/industrial section and our plan is to adopt the revision before the moratorium expires,” he explained. “We may have to extend the moratorium at the end of this month a little bit longer.”

Tonight’s public hearing and called meeting takes place at 6p at the Justice Center in Carnesville.
