Details of FCHS Graduation Ceremony Expected to be Released Today

Franklin County School Administration will be meeting this morning to discuss the details of holding a senior graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020.

On Tuesday, School Superintendent Chris Forrer told WLHR News they hope to release that information later today.

Last Friday, dozens of seniors, led by deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s office, paraded through the County as part of their graduation celebration.

Organized by high school teachers, dozens of decorated vehicles containing seniors, paraded from the high school through the County – passing through each municipality.

On the Franklin County Schools Facebook Page, Forrer praised the citizens of the County who came out in droves to stand on the sidelines waving and cheering on the graduates.

Forrer noted the class of 2020 lost so much of their senior year to the COVID pandemic.

“I have often spoken of the challenges we face living in Franklin County, but last night showed why we are all blessed to live here. Our community came together in a way that could never happen in a metro area. Every police department, fire department, church, city council, etc… along the route was out in force celebrating our graduates. Our seniors who have lost so much finally had the opportunity to feel the love. It was very special, and all of us were honored to be a part of it. So in the end all I can say is that we may not have the high-speed internet or tax digest that other counties do, but we have each other, and that is the greatest blessing we could ever ask for. One Franklin is not just a motto; it is the way we live. Thanks again for making our seniors feel like family,” he concluded.

High School Science Teacher Tammy Melton, who organized the graduate procession last week, said the teachers also hope to give the seniors a prom and a senior picnic.
