FCHS Seniors Will Parade Through the County Tonight

Franklin County High School seniors and hopefully the entire Franklin County community will be taking part this evening in a special procession to celebrate their efforts and achievements, despite the COVID-19 pandemic that interrupted their senior year.

Franklin County High School science teacher Tammy Melton had the initial idea for the parade. Melton said a series of events are being planned for seniors and the first one is tonight’s senior procession.

“The Franklin County High School Seniors will decorate their cars. They will come to the school to pick up their cords and things because we’re encouraging them to wear their cap and gowns,” she said.

The procession will begin at 7p this evening but students participating are asked to get to the high school no later than 6:30p.

Melton said the procession will be led by Sheriff Steve Thomas and deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s office.

She said there has been a lot of community support and the plan has the support of School Superintendent Chris Forrer and the School Board.

Other activities for the seniors are also being planned, including a prom and a senior picnic, both of which had to be canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
