Deputy Garner Honored by Franklin BOC with Proclamation

Deputy Garner had been with the Franklin County Sheriff’s office for a year

Franklin County Commissioners have approved a resolution honoring the life and service of Franklin County Deputy William “Bill” Garner.

Deputy Garner was struck and killed by a motorist Sunday, July 19th while working a wreck on I-85 near Exit 164.

Monday evening’s meeting was attended by Garner’s wife and a number of local officials including Sheriff Steve Thomas, EMS Director Terry Harris, Franklin County Coroner Scott O’Barr, Franklin Springs Mayor Lee Moore, Franklin Springs Police officer Freddy Welborn, Royston Police Corporal Davis, and Franklin County Tax Commissioner Bobby Martin.

At the beginning of the meeting during the invocation, Commissioner Eddie Wester prayed for the Garner family.

Commission Chair Thomas Bridges said the County wanted to do something to honor Deputy Garner’s service.

“We had it on our hearts to do something to honor the memory and service of Deputy Garner,” noted County Commission Chair Thomas Bridges. “So we decided to issue a proclamation tonight and have invited a number of county officials and Mrs. Garner.”

The resolution was then read by Commissioner Jason Macomson and can be read here:313, Resolution Honoring Officer William Garner, Aug. 3, 2020 (1)

After the reading, Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the resolution honoring Deputy Garner.

Commissioners then held a moment of silence in Garner’s memory and presented his widow, with a framed copy of the proclamation.
