COVID Vaccinations Dropping in Franklin and Surrounding Counties but Still High in Others

District 2 Spokesman Dave Palmer said the Department of Public Health is holding similar vaccine clinics across Georgia in areas where the number of people receiving a COVID vaccine have dropped.

Franklin County is one of the counties where the numbers have gone down since vaccines were first offered in January.

On Thursday, Franklin County Health Department Nurse Manager Angy Fowler announced she had open appointments at the vaccination center in the Rocky Ford Recreation Center in Carnesville.

Fowler tells WLHR News it has been slow there all week but said that could be due to schools being out for spring break.

Palmer said the same has been true in Stephens and Hart Counties while other nearby counties in District 2 are swamped with people calling for appointments to be vaccinated.

He said Gainesville has seen over 1,200 people get vaccinated a day this week and the same in Forsyth County.

Lumpkin, Dawson, and Banks counties also have been busy scheduling appointments and they’re filled as soon as they open up.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Health’s new web page on the number of those vaccinated in the state, Franklin County out of a population of 22,084 only 2,881 people have been fully vaccinated or 13% of the population.

4,264 people have gotten at least one vaccination.

In Hart County, out of a population of 25,213, just 3, 777 have been fully vaccinated or 15%, and 5,324 people have gotten at least one vaccination.
