City of Lavonia to Set 2013 Millage Tonight

At their regular meeting tonight, the Lavonia City Council is expected to discuss the transition of ownership of the Franklin County Cannery from the Franklin County School system to the City of Lavonia.

At a recent work session, Lavonia City Manager Gary Fepserman said an agreement between the two bodies had been worked out.  The city wants to take over ownership of the historical building because it is falling into disrepair.

In other business tonight the city council will also be discussing their ongoing talks with Hart County over expanding sewer service to the Gateway Industrial Park.

They are also expected to set the final tax millage for fiscal 2013.  A public hearing on the millage will be held prior to the city council meeting at 5p.

Tonight’s public hearing and city council meeting take place at the Lavonia City Hall on SR 17.
