City of Lavonia Honors Water Dept Employees

The Lavonia City Council, Mayor, and staff took time Monday at the City Council meeting to honor some water department employees who went above and beyond the call of duty recently on two separate occasions.

Monday night, City Manager Robert Ogburn first pointed to the recent water main breaks in Hart County in which the City of Lavonia water department employees helped by supplying water to the County.

The three who helped Hart County were not at the meeting Monday, but Ogburn said they would receive Certificates of Excellence. They are Braden Coleman, Dalton Loudermilk, and Joseph Mitchell.

The City of Lavonia supplied water to Hart County out of the City’s 8-million-gallon reserve tank, but before the water could start flowing, an issue with the reserve water tank pipeline was discovered, which first had to be repaired.

The three worked around the clock to get the repair fixed and get water flowing to Hart County.

Ogburn also recognized the team from the Water Department that also worked around the clock last week to find and repair a water line leak in Lavonia.

Ogburn said the leak came from two one-inch taps coming off of a 2-inch galvanized pipe, from an old part of the water system that is no longer used. Crews worked around the clock to find the problem and capped the taps off.

Honored Monday night with Certificates of Excellence were Wesley Norton, Matthew Tice, John Payne, Scott Brown, Rodney Andrews, Josiah Creason, and Josh Mobley.
