Canon Voters Select New Mayor, City Councilman

The City of Canon has a new mayor, officially.

City councilwoman Annie Wallace was the only person to qualify for the mayor’s race. She ran unopposed and will fill the unexpired term of late mayor Ray Morgan who passed away on January 27.

Though she ran unopposed, Wallace received 44 votes on Election Day, one advanced vote and two absentee by mail votes for a total of 47 votes.

Two people ran to fill her unexpired City Council seat.  They are William Minish and Cullen Morgan, Ray Morgan’s son.

After the votes were tallied Morgan won by a vote of 42 to Minish’s 11 votes.

Of the 470 registered voters in the City of Canon, only 53 people cast ballots in both races.

Wallace and City councilman elect-Morgan will have to qualify again, however, in August to run for their respective full four-year terms in November.
