Breaking News: 3yr Old Child Killed in Avalon in Tragic Accident

Tragedy in Avalon in Stephens County the day before Mother’s Day.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said Saturday evening, a little girl was killed when her father accidentally backed his vehicle over her.

It happened Saturday evening at a home on Julian Westmoreland Road at about 6p according to the Sheriff.

Shirley said the child, about 3yrs old, was playing behind her father’s vehicle in the driveway and the father did not see her when he backed up.

Speaking shortly after the incident, Shirley said as soon as received the call, he called in one of his investigators and the Georgia State Patrol.

“Early this evening, 911 contacted my deputies and advised them that a pedestrian accident had occurred,” Shirley said. “Once deputies arrived, they contacted the Georgia State Patrol and asked them to assist in the investigation. After I was contacted, I had my on call investigator come and assist as well.”

The child died at the scene.

Calling it a tragic accident, Shirley is asking the community to pray for the family.

“All our prayers go out to the family,” he said. “Especially having happened the day before Mother’s Day. We send out our deepest sympathies and ask the community to remember the family in their prayers.”

According to the Sheriff, no charges will be filed against the father of the little girl.

The names of the parents and the little girl have not been released.
