Boil Water Advisory Continues in Banks County

In Banks County, water authorities say it will likely be Wednesday before a boil water advisory is lifted for residences and businesses north of I-85.

Late last Thursday night, a major water leak was discovered in woods off Mt. Sinai Road near Silver Shoals Road, leaving many customers without water for most of the weekend.

Crews with the Banks County Public Utilities have been working all weekend and by Sunday afternoon had the leaking water line repaired.

But according to information from a special hotline, Steve Reese, Banks County Public Utlities Director, is advising it will be sometime today before the water tank is again full.

Once the tanks are full, Reese said the water will then have to undergo testing by the Environmental Protection Division to assure the water is safe.

In the interim, Reese said water customers should continue to boil water for at least several minutes before using it.

Potable water is also available at Banks County Fire Stations or the Banks County Recreation Department. For updates on the water situation in Banks County, water customers can call the special hotline at 706-677-6810.
