Amtrack to Eliminate Dining Car Service

Amtrack to elminate dining cars on Crescent and other rail lines next month

Amtrak it is reinventing its dining service on long-distance trains, killing the traditional dining car on all its trains to create more “flexible” and “contemporary” dining options.

Instead of the traditional dining car, the new service will feature exclusive onboard lounge spaces for sleeping car customers to dine, as well as flexible dining times without the need for reservations.

Amtrack says the change, which starts next month on the one-night routes east of the Mississippi River, will not only save the rail service money, but is also intended to lure a younger generation of new riders.

The new dining service will kick off on the Cardinal, City of New Orleans, Crescent, and Silver Meteor lines starting on Oct. 1, and on the Silver Star line in 2020.

The Crescent line runs through Atlanta and makes a stop in Toccoa.
