Airport Authority Town Hall Meeting Postponed

On Thursday, May 12, we told you about a planned town hall meeting in Lavonia next week by members of the Franklin-Hart County Airport Authority.

But Thursday morning, County Commissioners in both counties asked the Authority to postpone the town hall until the results of the GBI investigation are completed.

Authority Board members say there’s been a lot of misinformation on social media regarding the airport authority, the forensic audit, and the GBI’s investigation.

The meeting was intended for citizens from across Franklin and Hart County to ask questions and get what the authority says is the real information on the authority, the airport, and the issues involved.

Meantime, the GBI continues to look into the results of a forensic audit of the Franklin-Hart Regional Airport accounts that was recently completed by a Florida CPA firm.

The results of that audit were turned over to the GBI after they were received and reviewed by both the Hart and Franklin County Boards of Commission.

Franklin County Commission chair Jason Macomson made that announcement at last month’s work session.

Macomson said, “We’ve waited a long time on a resolution of the questions raised in the past about the airport authority,” he continued. “As fiduciaries on behalf of the public, it is the duty of the Board of Commissioners to ensure that public funds are accounted for and used appropriately. By referring this matter to the GBI, we are exhausting every avenue to ensure that the public’s interests are protected and that a full and complete accounting of this matter will be provided.”

Again, a town hall meeting by the Franklin-Hart Airport Authority that was to have been held next week has been postponed.

WLHR News will announce the new date when it becomes available.
