Sign Up for Angel Tree Program Ends Thursday

Those needing help to provide gifts for their children this Christmas have until Thursday to apply for help from the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program.

Sign ups began October first at the Salvation Army Toccoa office and on the Salvation Army website.

Toccoa Service Center Director Rebbecca Dixon said over 500 families have signed up to receive gifts for their children this Christmas.

Parents and caregivers can sign up for help on the Angel Tree website where they can fill out an application for help with gifts for every child in the home.

Dixon said in order to receive gifts, the Salvation Army requires evidence of the family’s address and evidence of the date of birth for each child.

If parents or caregivers do not have the child’s birth certificate, Dixon said a vaccination record, a medical document, a school document or anything that has the date of birth of the child and the family’s address on it will work.

She added parents must also provide the clothing and shoe sizes for each child in the home so those who donate will know what sizes to buy.

Once the application is uploaded, people wanting to help a family will be able to pick an Angel from the Angel tree and buy the clothes and toys they are asking for.

And Dixon said there’s also a new way for those wishing to donate to do it online.

If you prefer to shop for items yourself, you can pick an Angel off the Angel tree at the Walmarts in Toccoa/Eastanollee, Cornelia, and Clayton.

You must drop off your gifts at the Toccoa Salvation Army offices by December 9.

Dixon said gifts will then be sorted and packed for parents to pick up on December 12 at the old Stovall Hardware store on Mize Road.
